Life Drawing

I'm officially a student again. I'm taking a life drawing course at Skyline College and let me tell ya I almost peed my pants. It felt like the first day of school all over again but in a fun kinda way and not in the way that you want to shoot yourself in the head.

My Class :) 

My first class drawing. First sentence my professor said to me "Make sure the head of the penis is on the 3.75 mark" .....Oh don't worry I will. I find this funny, I think I might be in second grade. 

Bye bye penis, hello math. I failed math. I like drawing the penis better :-/

BUT I will say this was a very interesting concept at figure drawing. Especially for someone who draws the weirdest unproportional characters. I can't wait to see what comes out of this.

Wow It's Been A While

Just like the title states.....It's been way too long folks. I miss my little blog. I've counted all the times I've been travelling this year and I think I came up with 8 out of the 12 months I was out of the country. Can't really complain about that considering there's people without homes yet I'm complaining that I can afford plane tickets. Any hoot its a new year and I'm staying put (knock on wood) at least for a few months.

My birthday falls at Christmas time and with the new year right around the corner I always think its a great time to reflect on what worked in my life last year and what did not. It was hard for me to create any art as all my creative energy went into my wedding (which was the best fucking wedding of all times!!!!) and to my studies - I'm in school for Real Estate.

Now that life has settled down and all the craziness has been organized into their own respective filing cabinets, you will see some new and interesting creative endeavors coming out of Rubyspam. I won't talk about them, I'll just show you. So stay tuned for the updates.....

Happy New Year and Happy Chinese New Year. It's the year of the dragon. I am a dragon. It's gonna be a great fucking year......Now I feel like I'm jinxing myself.....damn.....

Ok Mofo's it's Show Time

Twice a year I take part in this event courtesy of the wonderful Irene Hernandez-Feiks. Put it this way, its this weird gathering in a industrial kinda place where you walk in and you feel like you're in Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory but with art not chocolate. DJ's are playing, live painting is happening and the drinks are a flowing. So come one and come all because its only one night and you have to go Christmas shopping at some point, so why not do it with alcohol? Let's be responsible and unique this year and get some cool shit for the fam instead of that crap you buy at the 24 hr Walgreens on Christmas Eve. Yes I'm talking to you. Plus I hear this really great artist and all around cool chick Rubyspam will be there.

Flower Fan and My Vayjayjay

So a bunch of us girls got together at a friends house for dinner last night to talk about our periods and boys and decided that I have to go use the washroom. I go in and the first thing I see is this: 

Now, my friends place is no Buckingham Palace but it is a nice, cute and artistic apartment. It's just not a place that you would happen to find flower fan decor on your toilet paper. She had the cleaning lady come over that day and the end result was this toilet paper and kleenex flower fan and of course a nice clean house. I felt bad being the first person to use this beautiful piece of artwork that the cleaning lady probably spent a good 10 minutes working on only to wipe my vajayjay after I pee. So I ripped it off so it can spend its eternity next the equally beautiful kleenex flower fan. They looked like long lost lovers.

My friend pays $80 bux for this shit.

My Book Came In :)

You guys have to check out this book. (Guys = people who are artists, interested in art, rubyspam blog readers ;) and anyone else). Its the New American Paintings October / November Edition 96. This is the Juried Exhibitions book and it is amazing. If you need a little pick me up or your in an art funk, get this book. It'll put you right back on on the creative train.....on another note, my hand is still wrapped up as you can see. Boo  :'(

Anonymous street artist is awarded $100,000

A mysterious French artist who transforms some of the world's most downtrodden slums with his haunting large-scale photographs has won a $100,000 humanitarian award for his work.

Past winners of the TED prize -- which is named after a California lecture series that focuses on technology, entertainment and design -- include Bono and Bill Clinton. Recipients make a "wish" for a philanthropic project they'd like to head up, and outside donations then come pouring in.

The 27-year-old Parisian, called only JR to protect his anonymity, photographs faces of people who live in poverty and then blows up the images and pastes them on rooftops or walls. His tactics are not always strictly legal: He was arrested and then released in China earlier this week for posting one of his photos.

JR told the New York Times he was "stunned" that he'd been selected and doesn't know what philanthropic project he will now launch.

"I go to local communities, forgotten communities or antagonistic communities, and try to energize them and bring them together and make them think, through the medium of art. I would want my 'wish' to be something like that, but on a global scale," JR told the U.K. Independent.

Hilton Anatole in Dallas TX

Hello Everyone, just got back from Dallas and spent my time pretty much living in an art museum. The Hilton Anatole, which is privately owned by Trammell and Margaret Crow, is the most beautiful place I have ever stayed in. They have over 1000 pieces of art in the hotel including a $7,000,000 painting by Russian oil painting, “Nana,” by G. Marcel Suchorowsky, a huge piece of the Berlin Wall and two Asian sculpture heads that date back to the 1400's. If you ever get a chance to visit Dallas stop by this beautiful art filled hotel.

The famous painting "Nana". I had the please of drinking one of the best martini's in front of a $7,000,000 dollar painting. It was absolutely beautiful.

Saturday Night at L's Cafe

Here are a few pics from the event at L's cafe put on by MAPP and Pink ARt. There were many locations participating but I heard our event was the best. There are those rare moments in life where everyone's energy is on the same cosmic level all in one location and it creates some sort of unified mental orgasm. CITY ART GALLERY OPENING

 Our opening reception is tomorrow at City Art Gallery located at 828 Valencia St from 7-10pm.....I have to say that there are some really great pieces at this month's showing. I'm in love with a few pieces already so we might have to duke it out if we want the same piece and I'm warning you I know karate. OK well I don't but in my dreams I'm a 7th level black belt. So come by drink some wine, eat some food and we'll talk about each other's dreams while we pretend fight over what art who's going to get.

SECOND BEST THING OF THE WEEKEND!

Hello Everyone!
So I have some amazing news..... my art is on the cover of the Sunday San Francisco Chronicle Food Section! YAY!!!! I'm so excited I feel like using !!! after every sentence!
This picture was taken at La Victoria Bakery where my art will be up until the end of June.
If you guys are not aware of this place you should be. They have AMAZING vegetarian food, gourmet coffee's and baked goods and best of all, every Saturday they have gourmet food carts, a band, and a guest chef. I had my opening there on Saturday May 15th and I couldn't of asked for a better host, the owner Jamie Maldonado or a better time.
So hopefully you get a chance to sit down enjoy your time and see my art!!!!! (Reminder, the !!!!! is to extend my excitement since you can't hear me yell YAY!!!!!)
Now I'm off to Los Angeles to check out the galleries. Good bye San Francisco (temporarily) and hello LA!
